Sculptra Collagen-Stimulating Injections for the Body in Brickell — Skin Quality and Subtle Contour
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injectable that works by prompting your own collagen rather than filling space. On the body, our providers use it to improve skin firmness, smoothness and subtle contour on areas such as the buttocks, backs of the thighs, upper arms, décolleté and knees — skin that has become thin, crepey or dimpled with time or weight change. Results build gradually over months and are among the longest-lasting in non-surgical body care. In the U.S., body treatment with Sculptra is an off-label use performed at the discretion of our licensed providers under medical director oversight. Individual results vary.

Overview
What Sculptra Body is
Sculptra is a regenerative biostimulator made of poly-L-lactic acid microparticles suspended in sterile water. Once placed beneath the skin, the particles act as a scaffold that the body gradually responds to by producing new collagen and elastin, after which the PLLA itself is absorbed. Galderma, its maker, describes the body program as designed "to improve firmness, smoothness, shape and contour," and in late 2025 obtained EU certification for the gluteal area, posterior thighs, décolletage and upper arms based on pilot data showing improvement as early as one month and continuing to one year.
In the U.S., Sculptra is FDA-approved for specific facial uses; its use on the body is off-label. That is a common and well-described practice among aesthetic physicians, but it means candidacy, dosing and placement are determined individually by your provider rather than by a manufacturer label.
The Technology
How it works
- Placement. Diluted Sculptra is injected in a fanning or grid pattern into the deep dermis or just beneath it across the treatment zone — not as a bolus, but spread evenly over a wide area.
- Scaffold. The PLLA microparticles sit in the tissue and trigger a mild, controlled response.
- Collagen response. Over 6–12 weeks, fibroblasts build new collagen around the particles. The skin becomes thicker and firmer; dimpling and crepiness soften; on the buttocks and thighs a subtle improvement in contour may follow as skin quality improves.
- Absorption. The PLLA is gradually broken down and cleared by the body; the collagen it prompted remains for an extended period.
Because the change comes from your own collagen, it looks and feels natural, develops gradually, and is not visible as "product."
Candidacy
Areas treated & who it's for
Areas treated
Buttocks (skin quality, dimpling, subtle contour) · backs of the thighs and the fold beneath the buttocks · upper arms (crepey inner-arm skin) · décolleté (sun-damaged, crinkled chest skin) · above the knees · abdomen (crepey post-weight-change skin, selected cases) · elbows
Who it's for
- Crepey, thin or loosened skin on the buttocks, thighs, arms, knees or chest
- Dimpling and uneven texture on the buttocks and thighs
- A desire for subtle, natural-looking improvement in firmness and contour without implants, fat transfer or surgery
- Patients who have had RF tightening and want to extend skin-quality gains
- Adults at a stable weight with realistic expectations about a gradual result
Not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection or inflammation at the site, with a history of hypertrophic or keloid scarring (assessed individually), or with known hypersensitivity to any component. Candidacy is confirmed at consultation.
Step by Step
The process
- Consultation — Assessment of skin quality and laxity, photographs, review of history and medications, explanation of off-label use, number of vials and sessions, written plan and consent.
- Preparation — Sculptra is reconstituted in advance (your provider follows a dilution protocol suited to the body area). Avoid blood-thinning supplements and alcohol for a few days beforehand where safe to do so.
- Numbing — Lidocaine is typically mixed into the product; topical numbing or ice may be added for sensitive areas.
- Injection (30–60 minutes) — The area is marked in a grid. Product is placed with a needle or cannula in a fanning pattern across each zone. Body areas typically use more vials than the face — the buttocks and thighs, for example, often use several vials per session.
- Massage — Your provider massages the area immediately to distribute product evenly, and you continue a short at-home routine (commonly 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days).
- Series — Typically 2–3 sessions spaced 4–8 weeks apart. Your provider sets the exact plan.
- Review — Photographs at 3 months and 6 months after the final session.
Your Visit
What to expect
Mild discomfort during injection; the area may feel full, tender and slightly swollen for a few days. Any immediate fullness is from the water carrier and settles within days — the real change is the collagen that builds over the following weeks. Many patients notice firmer, smoother skin by 6–8 weeks after the first session, with results continuing to improve through the series and for months afterward. Individual results vary.
Recovery
Downtime & activity restrictions
- Swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising for up to about a week; most patients resume normal activities the same or next day
Aftercare
Aftercare
- Massage the treated area as instructed (commonly 5 minutes, 5 times daily, 5 days) to help even distribution
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and sun exposure on the area for 24–48 hours
- Do not apply pressure, tight garments or prolonged sitting on freshly treated buttocks for the first day where practical
- Daily SPF on exposed areas (décolleté, arms)
- Report any persistent lumps, redness or warmth to your provider
Results
Results timeline & longevity
- Days 1–7: temporary fullness and swelling resolve
- Weeks 4–8: early firmness and smoothing become noticeable
- Months 3–6 after final session: continued improvement as collagen matures; pilot data on the body reports improvement continuing out to one year
- Longevity: facial data show results commonly lasting up to about two years; body results are expected to be long-lasting and are typically refreshed with a maintenance session every 12–24 months. Individual results vary.
Options
How it compares & what it combines with
- Versus hyaluronic acid fillers: Sculptra prompts your own collagen gradually rather than adding immediate volume, and its effect is longer-lasting; it is chosen for skin quality and subtle contour, not instant change.
- Versus RF tightening (Morpheus8 Body, Quantum RF): RF contracts and remodels existing tissue with heat; Sculptra adds new collagen from within. They address laxity from different directions and are often sequenced — RF first, Sculptra once healed.
- With SyneraLift: non-invasive support for circulation and texture around treated areas.
- With Pulsar+: for circumference goals in adjacent zones.

It is a collagen stimulator rather than a traditional filler: it prompts your body to build its own collagen over time instead of adding immediate volume.
In the U.S., Sculptra is FDA-approved for specific facial uses; body treatment is an off-label use performed at your provider's discretion. We explain this at consultation. Galderma has obtained certification for body areas in the EU.
Typically 2–3, spaced 4–8 weeks apart. Body areas use more product per session than the face.
Early changes at 4–8 weeks; best results typically at 3–6 months after the final session, with continued improvement reported up to a year. Individual results vary.
Results are long-lasting — facial data commonly show up to about two years — and are maintained with periodic sessions.
The primary goal is skin quality — firmness, smoothness, less dimpling. As the skin improves, a subtle contour improvement may follow. It is not a surgical or implant-based change.
Lidocaine is mixed into the product; most patients describe brief stinging and pressure. Tenderness for a few days is common.
Massage helps distribute the microparticles evenly so collagen forms smoothly rather than in clusters.
Yes. RF is typically done first; Sculptra follows once the skin has healed to extend skin-quality gains.
