The technology
The right energy, precisely placed
The laser's light is absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft and follicle, converting to heat that disables the follicle's ability to regrow — while the cryogen spray keeps the surrounding skin cool. The 755 nm alexandrite is strongly absorbed by melanin, making it the most effective wavelength for fine and lighter-brown hair on lighter skin. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG penetrates deeper with less pigment absorption, which is what makes it safe for deeper skin tones and tanned skin and effective on coarse hair and ingrown-prone areas. The "Plus" generation raised maximum energy, added a 2 ms short pulse for fine residual hair and extended spot sizes to 26 mm so large areas treat in a fraction of the time.
The GentleMax Pro Plus is FDA-cleared for permanent hair reduction on all skin types I–VI and for pseudofolliculitis barbae; "permanent hair reduction" is the FDA's term for a stable, long-term reduction in regrowing hairs, not the removal of every hair forever.
