Chemical Peels in Brickell, Miami — Medical-Grade Resurfacing, Matched to Your Skin and Your Calendar
A chemical peel is the oldest and still one of the most effective ways to renew skin: a precisely formulated acid solution loosens the bond between tired surface cells and the fresher skin beneath, prompting controlled exfoliation and, at medium depth, new collagen. The difference between a peel that transforms and one that disappoints is almost entirely in the selection — the acid, the strength, the number of layers and the recovery window you can live with. At No Filter Medical Spa, every peel is chosen and applied by a licensed provider under medical director oversight after a skin assessment, so you get the right depth for your concern, your skin tone and your calendar. Individual results vary.

Overview
What Chemical Peels is
Chemical peels apply a medical-grade acid or acid blend to cleansed skin for a controlled period, after which the skin exfoliates — invisibly over a few days with a light peel, or visibly in sheets over five to seven days with a medium peel. As the surface is shed and rebuilt, pigmentation lifts, pores look cleaner, texture smooths and fine lines soften. We work across a spectrum of depths rather than a single "signature" peel:
| Peel level | Typical actives | Downtime | Best for | Sessions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glow / superficial | Lactic, mandelic, glycolic or salicylic acid at lower strengths; enzyme peels | None to one day of light flaking | Dullness, congestion, pre-event brightening, maintenance, sensitive and deeper skin tones | Monthly, or as a series of 4–6 |
| Clarifying / salicylic | Salicylic acid, often with mandelic or retinol | 1–3 days of light peeling | Oily, acne-prone skin, blackheads, post-breakout marks | Series of 3–6, two to four weeks apart |
| Brightening / blended | Jessner-type blends (lactic + salicylic + resorcinol), TCA at low strength, kojic or tranexamic additions | 3–5 days of flaking | Sun damage, uneven tone, melasma (in a provider-managed program) | Series of 3–4, four weeks apart |
| Medium-depth / TCA | Trichloroacetic acid at medium strength, sometimes layered | 5–7 days of visible peeling and redness | Fine lines, deeper pigmentation, textural damage, acne scarring | 1–3, six to eight weeks apart |
We do not perform deep phenol peels; patients who need that level of resurfacing are referred appropriately.
The Technology
How it works
- Controlled exfoliation. The acid temporarily disrupts the "glue" between dead surface cells so they shed in days rather than weeks, revealing the fresher, more evenly pigmented skin beneath.
- Pigment clearance. Superficial and blended peels lift pigment trapped in the upper layers and, with ingredients such as kojic or tranexamic acid, calm the overproduction that causes new spots.
- Pore and oil control. Oil-soluble salicylic acid travels into the pore itself, dissolving congestion and reducing the bacteria and inflammation behind breakouts.
- Collagen stimulation. At medium depth, the controlled injury reaches the upper dermis, triggering fibroblasts to produce new collagen over the following weeks — which is what softens lines and shallow scars.
- Cumulative renewal. Because the skin regenerates between sessions, a series produces progressively clearer, smoother skin than a single peel can.
Depth is controlled by the acid chosen, its concentration, how many layers are applied and how long it stays on the skin — decisions your provider makes in real time while watching your skin's response.
Candidacy
Who it's for
- Sun spots, uneven tone and post-inflammatory marks from breakouts
- Melasma, as part of a provider-managed program with strict sun protection
- Acne-prone, oily or congested skin that needs more than a facial
- Rough texture, dullness and "tired" skin
- Fine lines, early photo-aging and shallow acne scarring (medium-depth peels)
- Patients preparing for a wedding or event who want a glow peel in the weeks before, or a deeper reset months ahead
- Deeper skin tones, with peels selected specifically for safety (mandelic, lactic, low-strength blends) and a pre-treatment prep plan
Not appropriate over active cold sores, infection, sunburn or open wounds; within six months of isotretinoin; during pregnancy or breastfeeding for most peels; or with a history of keloids. Recent waxing, laser or retinoid use is discussed at consultation and may shift your appointment.
How to Choose
Which option is right for you
- Want a glow for an event this week with no peeling → Glow peel, three to five days before.
- Breakouts, blackheads, oily skin → Clarifying salicylic series.
- Sun spots and uneven tone → Brightening blended series, with a prep regimen if you have a deeper skin tone or melasma.
- Fine lines, deeper pigment, texture or scars and you can take a week of peeling → Medium-depth TCA.
- Not sure → book a consultation; we often start lighter and build, because the skin's response tells us how far to go.
Step by Step
The process
- Consultation — Skin assessment under magnification, review of your history, medications, recent products and your downtime tolerance; the peel level and prep plan are chosen. For deeper skin tones and melasma, a two-to-four-week prep with a brightening or retinoid regimen is often prescribed first.
- Prep — Stop retinoids, exfoliating acids, waxing and self-tanner as directed (usually three to seven days); avoid sun exposure; arrive make-up free.
- Cleanse and degrease — Make-up and oils are removed so the acid penetrates evenly; the eyes and lips are protected.
- Application — The solution is applied in controlled layers with a brush or gauze. You will feel warmth, tingling or stinging that builds and fades; a handheld fan keeps you comfortable. Your provider watches the skin's response and decides how many layers to apply.
- Neutralize or self-neutralize — Depending on the peel, the acid is neutralized or left to self-neutralize; the skin is soothed and a barrier cream and SPF are applied.
- Aftercare — You leave with written day-by-day instructions and the specific recovery products for your peel level.
- Follow-up — A review at one to two weeks for medium peels; series sessions are scheduled two to eight weeks apart depending on depth.
Your Visit
What to expect
During treatment: warmth and tingling that peaks within a minute or two of each layer and subsides. Afterward, glow peels leave the skin lightly flushed and tighter for a few hours, with invisible or barely visible flaking over two to three days. Blended and medium peels leave the skin pink to red and feeling tight; it darkens slightly on days two to three, then peels in sheets through days three to seven, after which the new skin is pink, smooth and noticeably brighter. Final results from a medium peel develop over four to six weeks as collagen rebuilds. Individual results vary.
Recovery
Downtime & activity restrictions
- Glow peels: no downtime; blended peels: 3–5 days of light flaking; medium TCA: 5–7 days of visible peeling and redness, plan accordingly
Aftercare
Aftercare
- Do not pick, scrub or pull peeling skin — this is the single biggest cause of marks after a peel
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a non-foaming cleanser; moisturize generously with the recovery balm provided
- Mineral SPF 30+ every morning and reapplied through the day; avoid direct sun for two weeks and hats are your friend
- No retinoids, acids, scrubs, make-up on peeling skin (make-up is fine over intact skin after 24 hours for light peels), waxing or other facial treatments until fully healed
- Avoid heavy sweating, saunas and hot showers on the face for 48 hours (longer for medium peels)
- Call us if you see blistering, unusual swelling or signs of a cold sore; antiviral prophylaxis is prescribed in advance for patients with a history of cold sores
Results
Results timeline & longevity
Brighter, smoother skin within a week of any peel; progressive clearing of pigmentation, breakouts and texture across a series; softened fine lines and shallow scars over four to six weeks after medium-depth peels. Results are maintained with sun protection, a provider-recommended home regimen and periodic maintenance peels. Individual results vary.
Safety
Risks & safety
Redness, tightness, flaking and temporary darkening before peeling; sensitivity to products and sun for one to two weeks. Less common: prolonged redness, breakout flares, cold-sore reactivation (preventable with prophylaxis), and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the main risk in deeper skin tones and the reason peel selection, prep and sun avoidance matter. Scarring is rare with appropriate depth and aftercare.
Options
How it compares & what it combines with
- Chemical peel vs. HydraFacial: HydraFacial includes a very mild resurfacing step with no peeling; a dedicated peel goes further for pigment, acne and texture at the cost of some flaking. Many patients alternate them monthly.
- Chemical peel vs. microneedling: peels work from the surface down and excel at tone and pigmentation; microneedling works from below and excels at texture and scars. Used in alternation they cover both.
- Chemical peel vs. laser resurfacing: laser offers stronger single-session results for lines and sun damage, with more downtime and more caution in darker skin tones. Peels are gentler, more adjustable and safer across complexions.
- Chemical peel vs. dermaplaning: dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation with no downtime and no effect on pigment; it is often done right before a glow peel to improve penetration.
Why No Filter
Care built around you
Any spa can pour a peel. The skill is in choosing one: knowing that a Fitzpatrick IV complexion with melasma needs preparation and a mandelic blend rather than a TCA; that acne scarring needs depth and that a bride three weeks out does not; that the skin's response on the table, not the label on the bottle, decides how many layers to apply. At No Filter your peel is selected and applied by a licensed provider under medical director oversight, with a prep plan when your skin needs one and a recovery kit matched to the depth. Antiviral prophylaxis is prescribed when it should be. And because we are a medical practice, a peel is rarely the whole plan — it is sequenced with microneedling, HydraFacial, light-based treatments or prescription skincare so that pigment, texture and breakouts are treated from every direction.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Pricing: Pricing confirmed at consultation
Glow peels usually cause no visible peeling. Blended peels cause light flaking for a few days. Medium-depth TCA peels cause real peeling for five to seven days — we plan these around your calendar.
You feel warmth and stinging that builds for a minute or two after each layer and then fades; a fan keeps you comfortable. Medium peels are more intense but brief.
Yes, when the right peel is chosen. We select gentler acids, prepare the skin in advance and insist on sun protection to avoid post-inflammatory darkening.
Glow and clarifying peels work best as a series of four to six, two to four weeks apart. Medium-depth peels may need only one to three, six to eight weeks apart.
It can improve it as part of a managed program with prep, maintenance and strict SPF. Melasma is chronic, so the plan is about control rather than a one-time cure.
A glow peel three to five days before; a blended peel two weeks before; a medium peel at least four weeks before.
After light peels, mineral make-up is fine the next day over intact skin. Avoid make-up on actively peeling skin after deeper peels.
Retinoids, exfoliating acids, waxing and self-tanner for three to seven days as directed, and sun exposure. Your provider gives exact instructions at consultation.
Yes — commonly alternated with microneedling, preceded by dermaplaning, maintained with HydraFacial and paired with prescription skincare. Injectables are scheduled on separate visits.
Professional peels use medical-grade concentrations and a provider's judgement about depth and layers; at-home products are limited to low strengths for safety and cannot reach the same results.
