Laser Tattoo Removal in Miami: Picosecond Removal for Every Color and Skin Tone

Performed with our picosecond laser — the current standard for tattoo removal

Removing a tattoo well is a medical process, not a quick zap. Our picosecond laser shatters ink into fragments small enough for your own immune system to clear, session by session, with wavelengths matched to each color in the design. Compared with the older nanosecond lasers most removal shops still use, picosecond pulses clear ink in fewer sessions, handle stubborn greens and blues, and leave less heat in the skin — which matters for scarring and for deeper skin tones. Numbing and cold-air cooling keep sessions tolerable; honest planning keeps expectations realistic. Performed by licensed medical providers under medical director oversight. Individual results vary.

Tattoo Laser Removal

Why people choose it

Chosen for your skin

  • Picosecond, not nanosecond

fewer sessions, better results on color, less heat and lower scarring risk than Q-switched lasers.

  • Every color

1064 nm for black and dark blue, 532 nm for red, orange and yellow, additional wavelengths for green, blue and purple.

  • Every skin tone

the 1064 nm picosecond setting is the safest choice for removing ink from deeper skin tones.

  • Honest plan

we score your tattoo (skin tone, location, colors, ink density, layering, scarring) and give you a session range before you start.

What it treats

The concerns we start with

  • Full removal

    professional and amateur tattoos.

  • Fading for a cover-up

3–4 sessions lighten enough for your artist.

  • Names, dates & small pieces

    fastest sessions.

  • Sleeves & large pieces

    treated in sections.

  • Hands, feet & ankles

    slower clearance, planned accordingly.

  • Color tattoos

reds, oranges, yellows, greens and blues with matched wavelengths.

  • Cosmetic tattoos

eyebrow microblading, eyeliner and lip blush, with test spots and eye shields.

  • Traumatic tattoos

asphalt or pencil pigment from injury.

The technology

The right energy, precisely placed

Tattoo ink sits as insoluble particles inside cells in the dermis. A picosecond pulse delivers energy faster than the ink can heat up, creating a photoacoustic shock that fractures the particles into fragments small enough for immune cells to carry away through the lymphatic system. The visible endpoint is an immediate whitening ("frosting") that fades within minutes; the actual clearance happens over the following weeks, which is why sessions are spaced at least eight weeks apart. Wavelength is matched to ink color: 1064 nm for black and dark blue (and the safest for deeper skin tones), 532 nm for red, orange and yellow, and shorter red-spectrum wavelengths for green, blue and purple.

Picosecond lasers are FDA-cleared for tattoo removal across skin types, with specific wavelengths cleared for specific ink colors and skin types.

Who it's for

A good fit starts with an assessment

Good for

  • Healthy adults with realistic expectations and a healthy immune system.
  • Black and dark-blue ink, tattoos on the torso and upper limbs, and untanned skin — the fastest clearers.
  • Deeper skin tones, treated with 1064 nm and longer intervals.
  • Anyone who wants a cover-up to look like a fresh tattoo, not a patch.

Not for

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding; isotretinoin or systemic steroids within 6 months; immunosuppression.
  • Active tan, keloid or hypertrophic scarring history, vitiligo or psoriasis in the area.
  • Known allergy to the tattoo ink (laser can spread the allergen) — we refer for other options.
  • Inks that may darken (white, flesh, pink, some browns) without a test spot first.

Your treatment plan

A plan, not a one-size-fits-all session

  1. 01

    Session count

Session count depends on the tattoo: professional 6–12, amateur 3–6, fading for cover-up 3–4; higher skin types, hands and feet, dense color, layered cover-ups and existing scarring add sessions.

  2. 02

    Spacing

8–12 weeks between sessions — more often does not speed clearance and raises side effects.

  3. 03

    Comfort

30–60 minutes of topical numbing (or injected lidocaine for small pieces) plus cold-air cooling during treatment.

  4. 04

    Full course

    Full course typically 12–24 months.

What to expect

Before, during and after

before

  • No sun or self-tanner for 4 weeks; shave the area; eat and hydrate; no blood thinners if your prescriber allows; tell us about medications and any ink reactions.

during

  • Rapid snaps like hot rubber bands under cold air; the tattoo frosts white immediately. 5–30 minutes by size.

after

  • Red, swollen and tender like a burn; pinpoint bleeding, blisters or scabs over 1–2 weeks; the tattoo may briefly look darker; fading becomes visible 4–8 weeks later.

Downtime & healing

Your recovery, day by day

  1. Day 0

Frosting fades; red, swollen, tender; ointment and dressing.

  2. Day 1–3

Blistering or weeping possible — do not pop or pick.

  3. Day 3–14

Scabs form and fall off on their own.

  4. Week 4–8

Ink visibly lighter as the immune system clears fragments.

  5. Week 8–12

    Next session.

Aftercare

Care that carries the result

  • Keep clean and dry; a thin layer of healing ointment twice daily under a sterile dressing for 3 days.
  • No soaking — pools, ocean, hot tubs, baths — and no heavy sweating until healed.
  • Do not pick blisters or scabs; cool compresses and acetaminophen for discomfort.
  • Strict SPF and sun avoidance on the area between every session.

Results

Change, on your timeline

  • Visible fading 4–8 weeks after each session; most black tattoos are substantially cleared across 6–10 sessions.
  • Cleared ink does not return. Complete clearance is not guaranteed — a faint "ghost" of ink or lighter skin can remain, and some colors (yellow, light blue, white, flesh) resist.
  • Cover-up fading usually takes 3–4 sessions.
  • Individual results vary.

Risks & safety

An honest conversation first

  • Expected: redness, swelling, blistering, scabbing for 1–2 weeks after each session.
  • Possible: lightening of the skin in the treated area (most common in deeper skin tones; usually recovers over months, occasionally permanent), darkening, textural change.
  • Uncommon: scarring (usually from picking or infection), allergic reaction to released ink (red ink most often), paradoxical darkening of cosmetic inks — the reason we test-spot white, flesh and pink pigments.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

Professional tattoos usually take six to twelve, amateur three to six, and fading for a cover-up three to four. Skin tone, location, colors, ink density, layering and scarring all move the number; we give you a range at consultation.

Your immune system clears the shattered ink between visits. Treating sooner does not speed that up and increases blistering, pigment change and scarring.

It feels like hot rubber-band snaps. We use topical lidocaine for 30–60 minutes — or injected lidocaine for small pieces — plus cold-air cooling during the session.

Scarring is uncommon with picosecond lasers and proper aftercare. Temporary lightening of the skin is more common, especially in deeper skin tones, and usually recovers over months; occasionally a faint ghost remains.

Yes — colors are matched to wavelengths. Greens and blues respond well to picosecond lasers; yellow, light blue and white are the slowest and may not clear fully.

Yes, with care: cosmetic pigments can darken on first contact, so we test-spot, use metal eye shields for eyeliner, and plan two to four sessions.

Yes — three to four sessions typically lighten a tattoo enough for your artist to work over it cleanly.

No tanning between sessions (it raises pigment risk and delays treatment), and no swimming or soaking until each session's skin has fully healed.
