Lumecca IPL in Miami: The Photofacial That Clears Sun Damage and Redness

Lumecca® by InMode — intense pulsed light, 515 nm and 580 nm handpieces

Miami skin collects sun. Lumecca is the photofacial built to undo it — an intense pulsed light with roughly three times the usable energy of older IPLs in the wavelengths that brown spots and red vessels absorb, so most patients see their sun spots, freckles, flushing and broken capillaries clear in one to three sessions instead of six. Spots darken, lift and flake within days; redness fades over two weeks; nothing stops your day. Performed by licensed medical providers under medical director oversight. Individual results vary.

Lumecca IPL

Why people choose it

Chosen for your skin

  • Fewer sessions

Lumecca's high peak power delivers more energy into melanin and hemoglobin per pulse, which is why one to two sessions do what older IPLs needed four to six to do.

  • Brown and red at once

sun spots, freckles, flushing, rosacea redness and broken capillaries in the same visit.

  • No downtime, visible change

spots look like coffee grounds for a week, then they are gone.

  • Face, chest, hands and shoulders

the sun-damaged areas people forget until they see them next to a fresh face.

What it treats

The concerns we start with

The technology

The right energy, precisely placed

IPL is not a laser but a filtered flash of broad-spectrum light. Lumecca's two handpieces — 515 nm for pigment and vessels in lighter skin, 580 nm for a gentler pass, deeper vessels and more pigmented skin — deliver that light with unusually high peak power through a large, sapphire-cooled window. Melanin in a sun spot and hemoglobin in a vessel absorb the flash, heat, and break down; the body clears the pigment as the spot darkens and flakes, and treated vessels fade. The cooled window and short pulses protect the surrounding skin.

Lumecca is FDA-cleared for benign pigmented lesions (such as sun spots, freckles and dyschromia) and benign vascular lesions (such as rosacea redness, telangiectasia and poikiloderma); "collagen" or "tightening" benefits are not part of that clearance and we do not promise them.

Who it's for

A good fit starts with an assessment

Good for

  • Fitzpatrick I–III with discrete brown spots, freckles or redness; select type IV with a test spot.
  • Sun-damaged chest, shoulders and hands.
  • Rosacea patients who want background redness calmed without bruising.
  • Anyone who wants a visible change with zero days off.

Not for

  • Tanned skin or self-tanner within 4 weeks, and deeper skin tones (Fitzpatrick V–VI) — we use Pico or Laser Genesis instead.
  • Melasma — light and heat can worsen it; we build a Pico and topical plan instead.
  • Isotretinoin within 6 months, photosensitizing medications, pregnancy, active infection.
  • Raised or suspicious spots — those are examined, not lasered.

Your treatment plan

A plan, not a one-size-fits-all session

  1. 01

    Your series

1–3 sessions, about 4 weeks apart; vessels often clear in 1–2, dense sun damage may need 3.

  2. 02

    Comfort

15–30 minutes; no numbing for most patients.

  3. 03

    Maintenance

Maintenance once a year — more often if you live in the sun.

  4. 04

    Pairings

Laser Genesis two weeks later for residual redness; Morpheus8 or CoolPeel on alternate visits.

What to expect

Before, during and after

before

  • No sun or self-tanner for 4 weeks; stop retinoids and acids 4–5 days before; tell us about medications; arrive with clean skin.

during

  • A bright flash and a warm rubber-band snap with each pulse; the cooled window keeps it comfortable. 15–30 minutes.

after

  • Mild redness and warmth for an hour or two. Brown spots darken within a day and look like coffee grounds, then flake off over 5–10 days; vessels may blanch, darken briefly, then fade.

Downtime & healing

Your recovery, day by day

  1. Day 0

Pink and warm for 30–60 minutes; makeup same day if you like.

  2. Day 1–3

Spots darken and lift; vessels may look briefly more prominent.

  3. Day 4–10

Spots flake away — do not pick.

  4. Week 2

    Redness and vessels visibly reduced.

  5. Week 4

    Next session if needed.

Aftercare

Care that carries the result

  • Mineral SPF 30+ every day and strict sun avoidance for 2 weeks.
  • No heat, saunas, hot yoga or hot showers for 24–48 hours.
  • No picking or scrubbing the darkened spots; gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
  • Pause retinoids and exfoliants for about a week; no waxing or hair removal on the area for 2 weeks.

Results

Change, on your timeline

  • Visible lightening of spots at 1–2 weeks after each session; redness and vessels continue to fade for 2 weeks.
  • Treated spots do not come back; new sun damage can, so most patients maintain once a year.
  • Individual results vary.

Risks & safety

An honest conversation first

  • Expected: redness, warmth, darkened spots, occasional small bruise-like marks from vessels.
  • Possible: blistering or crusting, temporary darkening or lightening of skin (higher in tanned or darker skin), melasma flare.
  • Uncommon: burns, rectangular "footprints" from uneven overlap, scarring — minimized by provider technique, test spots and correct patient selection.

Why No Filter

Over-qualified for this. On purpose.

  • Licensed medical providers only

Every laser and energy treatment here is performed by a licensed medical provider, trained and certified on the specific platform, never by an unsupervised technician.

  • Medical director oversight

Dr. Vania Fernandez oversees protocols, settings and candidacy for every device on this page.

  • Settings built for Miami skin

Sun exposure and a wide range of skin tones are the rule here, not the exception; we choose the wavelength and energy for your skin, and we will say no when a device is not right for you.

  • Consultation first, always

A face-to-face assessment, a written plan and clear pricing before any energy touches your skin.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

Peak power. Lumecca delivers more energy in the exact wavelengths that brown spots and red vessels absorb, so most patients need one to three sessions rather than four to six.

Vessels and light sun damage often clear in one or two; dense freckling or chest damage may take three, about a month apart.

A bright flash and a warm snap, like a rubber band. The cooled window keeps it comfortable; numbing is rarely needed.

Yes — that is the treatment working. Spots darken within a day, look like coffee grounds for several days, and flake off by day ten.

No tan or self-tanner for four weeks. Lumecca suits Fitzpatrick I–III and select type IV; for deeper skin tones we use the Pico laser or Laser Genesis, which are safer for pigment.

We generally do not use IPL for melasma because heat can make it worse. We build a Pico and topical plan instead.

Makeup the same day; exercise after 24–48 hours once the warmth has settled.

Yes, on separate visits: Lumecca for spots and vessels first, Laser Genesis two weeks later for residual redness, Morpheus8 for firming on its own schedule.
